Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Advice on kicker motor for 1988 Outrage 20

Looking to see what others are using for a kicker motor. I have a 1988 Outrage 20 with a 175 Johnson 2 stroke. Was thinking 8hp or 9.9hp two stroke long shaft. Enough horsepower? Only really want it for long trips as a backup and could tap into existing fuel tank. Any comments would be appreciated.

Your other post says you have a 1989.

Which year do you have?

Hi Slanderama,

If you are pre-mixing your 175 two stroke I would go with a Mid 80's Johnson or Evinrude 15 hp two stroke. Awesome motors. They idle down to near nothing and have plenty of power to push your 20ft boat in. Don't use much fuel either.

If you are running the VRO and have straight gas in your main tank I would go with a Yamaha 9.9 High Thrust with trim and tilt...Not a better kicker motor...Ever!

Just my .02 cents...

Vance

It's a 1988. Mistake in older post.
Thanks
