I received the 2018 BW catalog late last year. I like the front and back cover photographs. Everything in between is just OK. I wonder what the weight of the "New Model 170 Montauk" is: the catalog specifications page shows 1700 lbs no engine and 1890 lbs w/engine, fuel and water. This is an obvious mistake unless they weighed the new model with a 4 hp kicker motor attached.

Joe that is a nice link to see all the old catalog covers.
On the Whaler site under Models they still show the old 150 and 170 together with the new 2018 showing just the minor accessories differences.
The basic 150 Montauk difference is the single gas tank for the 2018 instead of two smaller ones. For the rest the specs are the same.
The 170's are much different with the internal twice as big tank, the dual bow lockers and then the many optional accessories you can get to dress up the boat. Hull wgt, motor, and other capacities seem the same.
These new re-designs will be classics of their own and I like my now "classic" 1st generation 150 Montauk.
Thanks.

EJO,
The catalog no longer shows or lists the older 150 or 170 Montauk models. Only the new models which we are going to list 150 Montauk II and the 170 Montauk II.
The 150 Montauk II shows a 2" deeper draft in the specifications.

Weatherly,
Difference in weight might be the 25" transom, the internal fuel tank, 4" in length and 5" in width etc. Would like to see one in person.
170 Montuak II comparison

Yes I'm aware but right now they still show both on the web-site as 150/170 Montauk with the new one as a 2018

Yes and slightly longer by 4" and draft by 3" and wider, etc. optional larger HP, better storage, but in general the same layout, weight is debatable as there is still a question of weight with engine, but based on current publications here it is;
MONTAUK 170 v. MONTAUK 170 2018
Length = 17-feet v. 17-feet 4-inches; 4-inches longer
Beam = 6-feet 10-inches v. 7-feet 3-inches; 5-inches wider
Draft = 9-iniches v. 12-inches; 3-inches more draft
Dry Weight = 1,400 v. 1,700-lbs; 300-lbs heavier
Max. Wt. Capacity = 1,650 v. 1,900-lbs; 250-lbs more capacity
Swamped Capacity = 3,400-lbs v. 2,800-lbs; loss of 600-lbs swamped capacity
Person Capacity = 7 for both
Maximum HP = 90 v. 115-HP; 25-HP increase
Minimum HP = 60 v. 90-HP; 30-HP increase
Deadrise at transom = 16-degrees for both

We were discussing the Catalog as I intended in this post.
The older models are NOT shown in the catalogs and not offered in the 2018 catalogs.
So there must not be an option to purchase an older 2017 model from the catalogs. Only newer 2018 models.
It would be good to see the HIN of any older 170 Montauk (2017) that has a BWCxxxxxxxx18
There might be some before January of this year with the year model of 2018.
We will have to wait and see.
We have seen this before on transition years.
Question to anyone.
Can you buy an older 2017 170 Montauk that is being made this month, January 2018?
Not last month or last year, but today?
Only the HIN will tell us.

Joe: You are correct. A person can buy an older 2017 170 Montauk but it will not be made in 2018. I just "built my own "170 Montauk older version using the link from the Boston Whaler's Diamond Anniversary Sales Event email I received (sale on until 28 Feb 2018) and ended up with a prompt to enter my personal data so that a dealer could contact me once already manufactured boat was located with my preferred specifications.

Today, I received an email from Boston Whaler, Inc., containing information about the correct actual weight of the 2018 170 Montauk boat. The new weight figure is 2320lbs (with engine, fuel). The customer rep said the specifications information will be corrected on the website.

So with the motor being 360lbs and the gas 150 we are looking at a hull weight closer to 1,800 lbs instead of the 1,700 lbs they show. Will be a good riding boat.

Just saw the 2018 MT 170 in person at San Diego boat show a couple weeks ago....Wow. You gotta check it out. Beautiful and thoughtful modifications. Very functional looking boat in a small package.
