I am looking a buying a 2005 Conquest I am told it has twin Yamaha four stroke 225 engines. The boat has black engines with the word Mercury on them. I am told that for several years Mercury was unable to supply engines for the whalers and had Yamaha supply the engines but were painted to look like Mercury's. Is this true?

Yes, this is true. For a time, Mercury bought Yamaha’s and painted black until the Verados were ready
