Finally!

After 25 years of using ear muffs style flush contraption and possibly 2 or 3 unnecessary impeller changes it dawned on me to use a trash bin to submerge the lower unit to flush the engine. Makes a huge (YUGE) difference!

The tell-tale has never been as strong...the sound of the engine so smooth and muffled and the neighbors and wife less irate.

Now I need to find an inexpensive canvas barrel that is also water proof. ...the ready made ones for engine flush are ridiculously expensive.

Any suggestions on using SALTAWAY in my new method?

I have 33 years of Winterizing with muffs. The noise never bothered anyone. I change impellers at 100 hours, and each time I say it was premature since they were still pristine.

I have a 40 gallon plastic barrel that I installed a valve on the bottom to drain the water. I only use it for classic outboards that have no muff capability. Sure, it drains easy and no hassle. But after running them I end up with a barrel full of greasy water.

I am in fresh water, so saltaway is not needed.

For larger outboard engine flushing a livestock drinking tub is ideal. It's even safe to run the engine while flushing in a tank. Idle speed only, please.

If you google collapsible rain barrel you will find some that will work well and are less than a 1/3 of the price as the one advertised for outboards.
