I'm looking at a 27 outrage with tower and twin Yamaha 200 HPDI's any thught on what I might expect for Speed/gph? The boat's listed at www.onsetbayyachtsales.com

Buster,

Actually whaler never made a 27 Outrage it was called a 27 Center Console Cuddy. Any way a guy I know with that boat had twin carb'd 225 Johnson's on a whalerdrive got low 40's max WOT, it cruised in the mid - upper 20's, and burned about 1 gallon per mile.

No wonder it hasn't seen water this year and is only asking 29k with twin 200 yammy's installed in 2000, a tuna tower with separate helm, radar, FF depthsounder and GPS.

Why are they such pigs? bad hull design or just the weight?

I am sure with the fuel injected motors and the hull being a non whalerdrive you would see better economy. Mavbe 1.75 - 2 mph. All hulls of this dimension and weight are prone to this type of fuel usage. Just the nature of boats this size. I would say at least seatrail the boat. Have them fill the tanks to the top. Run the boat and use a GPS to track your travel. and refill the boat upon return. These 27's are great boats but, because of the size and fuel use they sit for sale for LONG periods of time.

Looks like a very nice Whaler! Those HPDI's will sip fuel compared to some old 225 carb Johnson's...The boat has some nice features, super leaningpost, hardtop with gold rodholders and marlintower. The eisenglass looked pretty good...Those HPDI's have very few hours too. They are great boats and can go virtually anywhere.

It's true, those hulls tend to be on the market awhile unless priced low but thats what makes them so appealing. Take a seatrial and see how you like it. You can always start the offer low. If I was in the market and everything checked out, the boat ran well etc my offer would START at 23,500 (remember you can always go up)...Good luck if your going to check it out, keep us updated.

I have a 1992 27WA. Had twin 250 (carb) was getting about 1 MPG. We just re powered with twin 300 HPDIs. Mileage up about 40%! Also about half the oil use. Not alot more top in, but she "jumps" out of the water now on take off.

Jeez, now I don't feel so bad about forking out the cash for the 175 hp E-tec I just bought for my Outrage 20. :D

Yea, when you fork out for new 600hp you are making a long term commitment !!!!!

I think that boat with those new motors is just stunning. It is my favorite whaler out of all of them I have ever seen.

Yea, and you can go a lot further from home than me without getting beat up by the waves. Yours is a beauty.
