I have read threads on single-engine versus twin-engine, but personally I prefer twins. Looking at my options for repowering an Outrage 22, there is really only twin 115-HP E-TEC motors because Yamaha four-stroke motors would be too much weight. I don't want Yamaha two-stroke motors. Does anyone own or know of someone with an Outrage 22 with either twin E-TEC 115-HP motors or Yamaha four-stroke 115-HP motors. What is the general consensus on the 115-HP E-TEC?

English,

Though I never met in person I have spoken with two guys about their 22's with twins with 115's. One had a 22 guardian with 115 Evinrude EFI fitch ram motors. These are the predecessor to the E-Tec. He seemed happy with the performance and claimed the boat would plane off on one motor. Getting it to plane off took the tabs in full down and at times a bit of rocking to pop it out of the hole. It lumbered on plane but, atleast it would plane unlike the other 22 with twin 115 Honda's on a whalerdrive. Those motors did not have the torque to get the boat up on one motor. If you are going to go with the 115's stay in the 2 stoke world to get the low end torque.

I would look for 130's - 150's for a 22' Outrage. My father's guardian with twin 150's will power out of the hole without tabs on one motor and cruise in the low - mid 20's with ease. Unfortunatly there is a hole in the E-Tec line up as there is no 135 so you would have to look at a Merc or Yamaha for that. I have heard of a coming release on a V-4 135 E-Tec for some time but, nothing has ever been official.

You will not be disappointed with the E-Tec's. I have been around them and on boats running them and they always impress me. If you decide to go with the 150 E-Tec's and money is no issue the 200's are the same weight as the 150's. Just saying you could do it. There is a 22' Outrage on Boattrader right now down in Florida with brand new twin E-Tec 150's. You might want to call the guy up and have a chat.

Twin 115 Yamaha 4-strokes will weigh approx 804lbs vs. 115 E-tecs at 738lbs. I believe the twin Yamahas will be too heavy and the boat will squat in the stern...From what I've read the E-tecs are what they say they are, lightweight, quiet, smokeless and good on fuel. While I have never been on a boat with an E-tec my buddy Steven who is a diehard merc fan told me he was impressed with them. He told me he was out on the water with a couple friends, on their boat (with Yam 4-stroke). Another guy came up along side who had an E-tec the same size as the Yamaha and the E-tec was much more quiet. He was surprised....Not bashing Yamaha, just passing on an observation. I have another buddy who has a Yamaha 225 4-stroke. That motor is very strong on his boat, very quiet and also good on gas. Either way whether you choose a big single Yamaha 4-stroke or twin E-tecs you can't go wrong. Although the 7 year warranty on the E-tecs is nice. Good luck. Maybe some others here who are running E-tecs will chime in?

I was asking earlier about running a 22 OR with a single Yamaha 150, Then I noticed an older ad for a 22 OR with a single 130 Yam on it, I thought it might be a typo however in the pictures it was a 4 cylinder, I wonder how that ran, the twin 115's sound like a good choice

If the weight difference is only 66 lbs betwixt the two, you should put on whatever you want. I wouldn't think 66 lbs would have a significant impact on your waterline...but it is extra weight nonetheless. Another fishing buddy of mine has a 115 ETEC on the back of his 19ft Blue Wave and it runs like a scalded dog! Never a lick of problems. Our coastal guide has a 250hp ETEC on the back of his 23' Shoalwater and the same thing...runs like a striped ape and no problems whatsoever. Our flounder boat has a 75 ETEC on it and no problems. I was amazed at how quiet the 75hp is -in or out of the water. The motor (70hp Merc) I was going to put on the back of my '70 Katama was sold out from underneath my nose last week so I decided to just wait, finish out my boat for a few months until I could buy a new 90 ETEC...white of course !!! i'm using my E-Tec 225 everyweek and absolutely love it. Its quiet, sips oil (still haven't purchased any since i bought the boat and won't for a long time, and is great on fuel. Speed wise with a re-pitched 19 to a 21 prop pushes my 87 22 CC at 53 miles per hour all out. :D

I have an 22' Outrage with a single 150 4 stroke Yamaha and am very pleased with the performance; however, I think an Outrage 22' with twin E-Tec 115s would be an awesome set up. If you are thinking dual engines, the E-Tecs are the way to go!
