Ok so some of you may have seen some of my posts and YES I was asking them even before I bought a whaler
Well We did it ! This past Sunday my wife and I bought my son his first whaler a 1982 13' whaler sport ..with a Yamaha 25 hp. Happy Birthday a Owen , even if it is a few weeks early. We bought this to go fishing on Lake Winnipesaukee NH. This is a big step up for him from our 112 fiberglass row boat with a 5hp engine
The boat is in great shape and it needs a little work. I would like to make a couple of upgrades..loke seat cushions and I would really like to convert it to a Super sport. I am hoping to find some plans online as I can't aford to spend 1000 on one from specialty marine
Anyways I just wanted to share some pictures
This is when I beeped the horn and he came out and saw it ..boy was he surprised

Thanks

Jeff is absolutely correct... you will only recognize half the impact of this gift. The little teensy things that we say and do are acted upon are remembered by young ones twentyfold. Imagne the impact of a BW at that age !! And I thought I had it good with a 6hp Evinrude on a 12 ft Lowe on Clearlake, CA at age 12 !!! S-AAAALUTE !

That is Great!! My dad bought me a 13 Whaler when I turned 13 also. He sold it when I went off to college in 1989, but I found it and bought it back in 2005 for my 2 sons. I am now 36, and my boys are 3 and 4, so my purchase was pre-mature, but I couldn't pass on a boat that contributed so much to my childhood. Let the memories begin!! Congrats -

We took it on the water within the hour after giving it to despite the rain . He was so excited and wanted to take a drive ...we only went out for about 20 minutes ...I was having trouble keeping it running...but he loved it to say the least. We didn't have our camera because of the weather but my wife to this picture with her camera phone
So ask and you shall receive ..here is picture of his first drive

What could possibly be better than seeing the smile on a child's face when you are able to give them not only a material object as wonderful as a Boston Whaler, but also a memory that will remain in his mind and heart long after you have departed this earth. The memories, bonding and good times this little boat will bring to your family will be absolutely priceless. Cheerish them. :)

Great story, great pictures, great gift and a great boat! When I was thirteen I might as well have wished for a ride to the moon as a boat like that for my birthday. Well done Dad and Mom. :D
Hee hee I remember the day we bought our Whaler! My son was a sophomore in high school and knew I had been looking but had no clue the day I found and bought our 17 footer. When I picked him up at soccer practice and showed him the photos of our new boat he freaked. Immediately he called all his boat owning friends to tell them "
HE just bought a boat!!!":o

Jeff writes:
"That boat will forever be a highlight in your sons life"
I second that and add to your life as well. On his 17th birthday I gave my son a 1984 Toyota FJ60 Landcruiser. It was old, faded, and had 250,000 + miles on it, but the expression on his face brought tears to my eyes. The real payoff for me however came later. It was the "time" we spent together over the next couple of years restoring it. He's 22 now but the memories will keep me going forever and I can tell you that red FJ Cruiser will never leave the family!
You've done good. Start building that "time" and keep that boat forever.
Jeff

Can't pass this one up...
This brood, gaggle, bunch, gang, mob, of children, shown here on the Beach at Governor's Island, Lake Winnipausaukee, 1964, all can share stories of growing up with a Whaler....
It has provided my family, with a "glue", if you will, that can never be undone...
I'm sure it will have the same affect on yours....
Congratulations!

Nice picture...which one is you
Do you still visit Lake Winni...the island doesn't have that much open space anymore.
For those of you who don't know this island. You know what the say a picture is worth a thousand words in this case this picture is worth at least 3 million bucks (llterally) .This is the most expensive place to live on lake Winni... waterfront property on this island is 3 million easy. I drive by it all teh time and hope of hitting teh lottery. When I was in my teens I dated a girl who lived inland on this island and I thought her parents were loaded.
Thanks for sharing

Top row..5th toehead from the right...
Gramma Lucy's house has been sold...torn down...and a new megamansion is being erected in it's place...the rumor is it's Madonna...but who knows....the golden days are gone....
When we were there...if a boat went by...we would run to the shore to see...it was an event...and of course there was The Mt. Washington.....
I hear there are now close to 70'000 boats on the lake...up from the 700 in 1960...
you can't go back....
This picture could have been taken in the 50's...it was a beautiful place...palatial at the time....
