Confirmation question. I have been provided with good information for locating new mounting bolts for my 1989 Yamaha short shaft 50 (at least two holes up) on my 1963 13' Sport. But before I drill, I just wanted to confirm that when references say to locate top bolt holes 1-7/8" from top of transom, that refers to the top of NOTCHED portion of the transom and not the remaining part of transom that is taller. I believe that the raised part is actually greater than 1-7/8" above the top of the notched portion so this may be impossible to do. Just don't want to make a mistake and drill some substantial holes that I will later regret. Thanks for the confirmation.

I am not sure what you are referring to.

The top of the transom is the top of the transom.
Whether notched or not.

Hi Joe-

Maybe I am using the term "notched" incorrectly or I am assuming that the entire rear mounting surface is the transom. From your first image in the link, what I am asking is that I measure down 1-7-8" inches from the low point of the transom top (or what looks like the "nothched" out part.) Not taking the imaginary top of the arch of the transom as it spans across the rear of the boat and then come down from the top of that point 1-7/8" (impossible I believe based on the difference in height). Does that make sense?

It would be 1 7/8 inches down on the part of the transom where the motor is being mounted.

Hypothetically, if you were to mount a kicker motor on the part of the transom that was NOT notched on either side, then the motor would be measured from there. This is not the case however.
Measure from the top of the transom in the center where it is notched.
