living on puget sound, with dynamic tides/currents, it is important to have a kicker.

considering adding a 2.5 hp merc to my 13 ft sport, in addition to a 40 hp merc.

we use the boat primarily for crabbing.

thoughts/recommendations?

TodS,
The guy I bought my first 13 sport from which was a 1986 actually had a 4 HP 2 stroke Merc on the boat in addition to the 1986 Johnson 35 hp 2 stroke for a kicker. He used it to troll for salmon on Lake Michigan. The boat did not look too heavy or sit too low in the water, however, he basically clamped the motor to the transom on the port side so he could reach it from the drivers position. He told me it performed well and tried to sell me the 4 hp with the boat. I declined and clamping it to the transom made for some needed gel coat repairs when I bought the boat.

understood. thanks. i wonder about clearance/distance from 40, and whether to install a plate/board so the clamps do not screw directly to the gel coat. to be determined.

I have a very heavy electric trolling motor on my 1984 13. I cut a piece of boat carpet to fit where it clamps and that protects the gel coat.
