Hi everyone, hopefully easy question - I currently have a 135hp verado on the back of my whaler. The PCM went out on me and I found a 175 PCM on ebay. Everything works but just curious, the hull says max of 150hp - will the transom be ok with the power increase?

are you replacing a motor or just the PCM? Does it say you can use a 175 on a 135?
I doubt the PCM will increase on old 135 to 175 power. As the weight stays the same all you would get is some more performance. The 150 was most likely based on weight hanging off the transom and not so much power output.

Just PCM - My verado mechanic did some digging and called mercury - the powerhead is the same on the 4cyl verados across the board - 135hp, 150hp, and 175hp.

It should, in theory, pull the full 175hp. Might not feel much of a difference, maybe a bit of an improved hole shot when carrying 6 passengers plus gear. I would still only cruise at around 22mph which is about 3k RPM.
