My adult son and I are traveling to Seattle for a boys week in the beginning of May.
Any pointers on what we shouldn't miss. We like mechanical things and nature. i.e. not so much the arts this time just the Boeing tour and the architecture etc.
I love to meet up with a local Boston Whaler skipper that could give us a from the water tour.

Be sure to visit the Museum of Flight if it is not already on you list. Fascinating place. Harbor tours are available through Argosy Cruises. There is also a sailing vessel that does sight-seeing as well.
Visit the Center for Wooden Boats on south Lake Union. That part of town is pretty sketchy now, as it has been taken over by Google, Amazon, and other tech firms. Keep your eyes on your surroundings as you walk because no one else is:)

If you make it up to the San Juans I'd be happy to give you a boat tour.

Yes Museum of Flight, a Boeing Tour and the Wooden boats center are/were on our list already and we probably do the needle too. We were looking into boat rental but not much that speaks to us is available.
I wish I could take you up on your boat trip offer, but you're not around the corner. thank you though.

A couple more thoughts. Take a trip on the ferry from downtown Seattle to Bainbridge island. Washington State Ferries are one of the largest fleets around. Foot traffic only pays in one direction, so a round trip might cost $10 each or so. You get great views of the area, and the crossing is 30min each way.

Since you are interested in mechanical things you might consider a tour of the tunnel boring project in downtown Seattle, aka "Bertha". This huge machine is finally making really progress after a series of mechanical setbacks. The DOT is offering tours of various aspects of the project.
