I am putting the original 135 mecury back on my 2003 180 dauntless, i wanted to know which set of holes to use for best trim performance. I believe there are 6 of them to choose from. Any help would be appreciated.

Engine height is also determined by the prop used. While most props prefer to be just below the surface, there are some that want to be run deep.

If you are running a 3 bladed aluminum or stainless prop, start at 3 holes up.

Mercury's have five mounting hole heights, and I recommend the middle (third) set of holes be used. This will set the engine up 1-1/2", which is all the height needed for top speed potential of the rig. I would recommend a Mercury Enertia SS prop. If you are going to use aluminum props, consider the Mercury Spitfire 4 bladed aluminum.

What about for a 1982 Montauk 17 with an ETEC 90? I just put this engine on and they mounted it all the way down. I'm only getting 36mph and a very bad list to port. Any suggestions for this as well as best prop? Thank you!
