Hello. I am looking for a referral for light mechanic work in the Roanoke, Virginia area to tune-up a 1989 Evinrude 88 SPL. Typical to the model, the 88 SPL runs great but without frequent use we are having a problem with cold starts. The little fuel primer (not a choke) needs testing and a good run through. A shade tree mechanic or tinkerer would be fine--this is not an E-TEC. The 88 SPL will need new fuel line and primer bulb--which is easy to get all over Atlanta but Roanoke doesn't have a Bass Pro, West Marine or certified Evinrude shop that I can tell.
The dream and goal is to get the 88 SPL in tip-top shape in Virginia for a multiple launch and gradual trip back to Atlanta-- Smith Mountain Lake (VA), Watauga Lake and South Holston (TN), then either TN river in Knoxville or go the other way by Keowee (SC) lake.

You could try Mike French -
556-0315
He used to run a mobile mechanic service but has been working as a diesel mechanic lately. He might do on the side. He is a good fellow who has done some work for me.
Otherwise everyone is down at the lake. I use this shop which has been ok.

I like to encourage DIY repair work, especially on a simple motor like the 1989 E88 crossflow. The primer solenoid on the E88 has a valve that usually cracks but can be replaced in 5 minutes using a regular screw driver. see the parts diagram for the motor at:
