Does anyone have a prop size for 150ap Suzuki on my 1989 18' outrage? I just bought this motor and need a stainless prop.

There has been good results running the Suzuki 16" prop [23" x 16" part # 99105-00800-23P) with the engine mounted 2 holes up.

@5500 WOT, 49.5 mph with 1/2 tank and light load.

I would start there.

Ok thanks, I'm assuming motor mounted 2 holes up?

That would be a good place to start.

So these are my numbers so far.
Wot: 6175@ 37knots
4200:25 knots
Prop: 3 blade 15 1/4x19 Suzuki SS
63 gallons of fuel
2 adults
Mounted in 3rd hole from top (2 holes Up)
So I believe I need to go up 1 more hole higher and up in pitch on the prop
Let's hear some ideas

I'm curious as to how that works out for you.....I am presently reworking my 1989 and will also power with the 150 Suzuki.

(fixed typo in year)

Surf -

The recommendation provided was not pulled out of the nether. There is a bit of science to this which is why actual reported performance information is so critical. It came from a Whaler member who has that setup and reported his performance.

What happened to the recommended prop? Why did (the dealer I presume) ignore your request?

Your current prop is not even close to the size suggested.

Get the recommended prop installed and retest.

I need to raise the height of the motor first, this will add more rpms. The dealer said that prop would probably be too big. 5500 @wot is not where i want to be, I want closer to 6000. I know the range is from 5000-6000 but I want the high side. I'm going to raise the engine one more hole this week then try it so I will get back to you.

probably be too big

Having been a member for > 10 years I have lost track of how many dealers were completely WRONG about rigging a re-powered Boston Whaler.

One should raise the motor FIRST, then test the prop and make adjustments.

I would be very interested to see photos of how the boat sits in the water with this engine. At 531 lbs dry weight, that is a lot of motor hanging on the transom.

Any chance you could get us some photos of it in the water?

It sits in the exact same spot, I would put pics up next time it's in the water. I moved the batteries to the consul, there's no more oil tanks either. I had twin 70 johnsons before and I believe there weight was 248 each so with the 2 combined and the oil tanks I believe I'm the same. Water line is in the same spot.

The dealer would and I would like to have the wot at 6000 not 5500. So the dealer is not really wrong.

I am totally confused. According to Suzuki, the prop your dealer selected is for counter rotating motors.

See the chart: http://www.suzukimarine.com/~/media/M...s_PDF.ashx

If you want higher rpms, you would want to go from the recommended 16x23 to a 16x21.

The dropping down of 2" of pitch while keeping the same diameter will give you additional rpm's.

Ahh, got it. I didn't realize you were coming from twins. And yeah, with the elimination of the oil tanks and moving the batteries forward, I wouldn't expect much if any change in trim (you may have actually lightened the stern!)

But I'd still be interested to see a photo if you ever have a chance.

The prop is a 3x15 1/4x19R not counter rotating.

Yes I will test the 16x20 and the 16x21 1/2, after I raise the motor height. One of these will probably be the best one for what I wish to achieve.

I raised the motor another hole, so now it is in the 4th hole ( 3 holes up). I tried the Suzuki SS 16x21 1/2.
WOT:5375@38.4 knots
4280@25. Knots
so now I'm going to try the Suzuki SS 3x15x21
I'm hoping this is the final test I need to do.

Typically one changes the pitch only. You are changing pitch and diameter.

I am interested to learn the results.

Ok finally got my new prop Suzuki ss 15x21 3 blade. Pretty happy with the results I don't think I will do any better.
4400 rpm @33 mph
6000 rpm @ 46 mph

The splash well is dry, no water. Hard to seethe black water line but it it about 1-2"above the water

Thanks for the photos. Very nice looking engine, especially in the white color.

Is your console/leaning post shifted farther forward than the OEM configuration? In one of the photos it almost looks that way, but it might just be the perspective.

I believe it's in the OEM spot, it is the OEM leaning post.i took the top off the aluminum supports and made the cutting board top. I need somewhere for my live well and this worked out great.
