Hi all

My name is Ed ...I have been looking into buying a 13 to 15 foot whaler for my 9yr old son and I to use for fishing . We currently have an old Sears Ted williams fiberglass boat that has seen better days that we got it for free. I bought a 5hrs power motor for it a few years ago.

We are now trying to upgrade and thought a Whaler would be a great option . I have been searching the usually places...ebay,classifieds..etc . It seems there are different models for both the 13' and the 15'.

I want to pick the right option for me so I was wondering if there is a place on this or any other web site that would explain what the different models are and what seperates them from the other models. BTW I am leaning more towards the 13' boat unless otherwise persauded.

For example:

1. What is the difference between a sport and a super sport .
2. What 13' model(s) have back rests fro the captain

I have been looking at this site for the past few days trying to figure stuff out but I can't seem to find exactly what I am looking forthe different models .

The difference between the models is usually seating and or position of console or steering placement.

1. Sport
2. Super Sport
3. Super Sport Limited

The Sport model generally does not have a backrest.
The Super Sport model does...

If you look in the upper right side of this page you will see under sponsors a Whaler catalogue collection by Tom W. Clark. He has them all. He will be your authority on the subject or buy one of his cd's. I know some had rails and others did not, while some had different seating. It may change by year also.

Hi,

I have a "76 15' sport, the "super sport" has wrap around bow rails that taper down towards the back, this is good for holding the kid's in the boat safely, I prefer the side rails of the 15' "sport", as it makes getting aboard easier, the "S/S' model has a back rest, and a locker, I added a Jump seat off a 52' Hatteras for back support on mine, the 13' model is easier to take care of, it's lighter for starters, so it can be moved around easier in the drive way, and is less hull to bottom paint, the 15' breaks through the chop better, and is roomier, both the 13' and 15' are great models with different advantages.
