My first boat was a 1972 17 foot montauk. I have had a few boats since then and am now back in a boston whaler. Picked up this super clean 1988 27 full cabin with low hour 250 OX66's about a month ago and am loving it ever since. This boat is an absolute tank and runs awesome. Here are a few pictures

Over the winter i plan on restriping the entire boat, giving it a good polishing and upgrading a few outdated items.

The boat is pretty unmolested and well taken care it. It has shore power, extended range package with 310 gallons of fuel, fridge, stove, hot water heater, on board battery charger etc. I wish it had ac and mybe a genset but im not sure where it would even fit. My father in law has an 1986 sea drive versiom with an armstrong beacket and using his boat i fell in loce with it and had to find one for myself. I like the whaler drive package alot as opposed to the armstrong bracket. My boat seems to be slightly slower but it feels like a much bigfer boat

It is my understanding that generators were optional originally, but I have never seen that option installed. It is my understanding that the generator was installed in the hold compartment in front of the passenger seat, I can't remember which generator was used. I looked into this a bit when I refitted my 1989 Whaler 27, but I quit researching after I started using my boat regularly. It really seems that it would turn into a maintenance nightmare in that location. There are thru-hull fittings for cooling water in the boats for the generator in this compartment, but mine have been utilized for the A/C.

If I ever see a successful installation, I will reconsider. For now, I really enjoy the boat without one, and the A/C works fine on shore power anyway, but it would be nice to have a cool refuge in the cabin in the heat of July and August out in the Gulf, that's for certain! We catch a LOT of fish from our deck, and it sure gets HOT!

Please post of the results of any research you do on this subject, and your boat is a GREAT example of these models in good original condition, in my opinion :)

I have a hot water heater in the port storage compartment that keeps tripping but i would love to have ac there. I will try to see if the heating element can be replaced, if not the heater is most likely bad and i will just abandon it. We just finished redoing the decks in my father in laws 27 fc and with the deck out i could see those compartments are rather large. Its a shame there is no easy access to them for storage.

I spent about 8 hours out on mine today doing some inshore fishing and the boat ran great.

You are correct. The hot water heater IS in that compartment on my boat as well, I misstated the location of the original generator install hold. It was in the larger CENTER hold, between the two helm seats, and that is where my A/C unit is located.
