Hello all,
I just wanted to say this is the best Boston Whaler website out there, I have always loved the classic style of the Boston Whaler. I have just sold my boat and would like a new project to start and what better than restoring a classic whaler. I just wanted you opinions on what I should be looking for when trying to select a model/size. I do a lot of boating on the Ohio River around Louisville, KY and Madison, IN and want a model that will be stable enough for 1-6 people to fish, cruise, hangout. Usually the water has about 1' chop and can get swells up to 3' when there is heavy traffic. The current can be swift moving depending on current rainfall. Any ideas?

I would prefer to find something for under $1500 for the hull. I would buy a complete boat if possible, but I will probably end up replacing most items on the boat. I am looking into this as a couple year project so I really would just like a hull so I have somewhere to start. I have tracked several on Ebay for the last couple of months, but nothing has been close to the house. I have been leaning on trying to settle on a 15' just because everything else would cost less to do a restoration/refab (engine, gel coat, seating). I don't know if that would be large enough for the river. Any thoughts?

Brian,
Six people in a 15 is going to be VERY crowded. A 15 can handle a 1' chop with no trouble, but the 3'ers might be a little much. If it were I, a 17 would be my target. And you're right, it is the best Whaler site around.
