Hey guys so my fuel inlet on my johnson 90 (1983) is broken (leaking) and I just found out replacement bowls are not available for my motor. I drilled out the inlet and successfully removed it without doing any harm to the bowl itself. I'm thinking of drilling it and tapping it and using a barbed fitting. Has anyone run into this problem before or have any concerns with the way I'm gonna go about fixing it?

I wouldn't think twice about doing it. Just make sure that the fitting ID is the same as or larger than the plastic fitting it replaces to prevent a lean situation so measure the fitting ID. The barb may be 1/4 or 5/16 but it is the ID that matters. I'm thinking a 1/8 pipe tap would work in the casting but you will need to check that once you break off and clean out that pressed in fitting. Ace Hardware probably has all the hardware you need to build a new fitting.

It's finished and leak free now. 1/8 npt to 5/16 barb ended up having a slightly larger i.d. than factory. I used a blind tap and left about 1/8 of material in the top of the hole. That way it doesn't effect the gaskets ability to seal. It's funny I think I spent more time searching the Internet than I did actually fixing the problem.
