Not only am I new to this group, but I'm also a new (1st time) boat owner.

I had my trailer brakes lock on me while launching my boat this weekend. I bled the line in order to free the wheels & get the boat home. The (brakeaway) e-brake is not engaged either. I live on an island so it is an all salt enviornment. Any one have a tip? The boat & trailer are in my driveway now.

Hi John and welcome to WhalerCentral....

That is strange that this would happen to a 2005 Easport 205.
Is the trailer also a 2005 model?

What type of brakes? Drum or Disc?

Backing up can cause the brakes to lock up if you didn't flip the reversing lever on the hitch.
Not sure if your backup switch is automatic or manual.
Did they lock up going forward or reverse?

A little more info and some of us might be able to help.

The brakes are electrically actuated hydraulic
drum

It happened first in reverse approaching the ramp. But then in fwd when the trailer was empty, but just locking a little then free rolling then locking. Every time I told my buddy to look up it would free wheel, then he would look away & they would lock, etc, etc. When I got back to the dock is when I bled them. I'll need to check it out in the day light.

The only advice I can offer is we had this same thing happen to us with one of our cabin cruiser trailers. Turns out the tow vehicle was wired in correctly so the brakes would come on when you applied the brakes and also when the vehicles back up lights came on. So it would lock the brakes up in reverse. I would start with your vehicle first.

There should be a pin installed to keep the coupler from sliding towards the rear when tow vehicle is put in reverse. If not the coupler slides & engages the hydrolics on the trailer brake system.
