I got rid of the old Pate tank (flaking on the inside and clogging filter) and picked up a Tempo. Seems fine so far. But I have heard that the bulb should be close to the motor and actually hanging with the directional arrow pointing up. Mine leaves the tank and is after the filter but hanging down, towards the floor (where your claves are when driving). Any suggestions? Thanks. Mike

Mike,

If you aren't experiencing any problems, then leave it alone.
My Montauk was basically just as you describe and I never had a problem in 15 years of operation.

If a person were to redo the entire fuel line and bulb setup, then yes, put the bulb near the engine with the arrow of the bulb pointing up....

Correct me if I am wrong but I thought the arrow indicated the direction of flow.
So you would point it towards the engine.
And I have alway seen it towards the rear of the boat.
This allows for easy priming.
You probally could put the bulb anywhere in line but you would pump it alot more then with it closer to the motor.

It is arrow towards the engine, but what's being talked about here is the bulb's orientation within the fuel line... If you think in terms of a portable tank, the bulb will tend to sit with the arrow down as the fuel line is connected on top of the tank and drops towards the deck or bilge of the boat. If you follow the line back to the engine it will be rising up toward its' connection on the engine. Attaching the bulb back there will result in it being oriented up towards the motor. (Tank>v>>>^>Engine) That's where mine is and works fine. Then again I hardly ever touch it.
