Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Fuel additive on vinyl seat

I unfortunately spilled fuel additive on the corner of the driver seat in my 2005 Montauk 170. It turned the
vinyl yellowish green. I tried a vinyl cleaner which did not help.

Any suggestions? Would bleach be helpful or too harsh?

Thanks!

unless you hear a better idea, I've used Tilex to remove bad stains in seats. It can be harsh on threads but I've not experienced any problems.

That stuff really stains - I got it out of gelcoat with Barkeeper's Friend, but I think that was mainly acting as a compound to take off the top layer of gel. I would not use full strength bleach, although you could try with some diluted.

It may be a lost cause, but start with a heavy detergent like Simple Green and work up to more harsh stuff, including bleach.

Since the stain is petroleum based, I would try one of the "purple power" cleaning products, usually in a purple bottle. "Super Clean" comes to mind, in auto stores.

This stuff is great for cleaning boats and vinyl cushions. It melts dirt and stains away.
