I just purchased a 1998 17 Outrage II with a 150hp Johnson Oceanrunner and there are no zincs on the engine that I can see. Should there be, and where? A photo would be great.

Sometimes the skeg above the prop is the zinc,
but i'm not sure on your make/model...
PO could have painted it?

Go to the Evinrude/Johnson parts catalog. You will need the exact model number of your motor. Look at the gearcase section and it will show all of the anodes.

Thanks Walt, great link. Unfortunately, it just shows an anode floating out in space with no fastener. Maybe it's under the trim tab?

If you print out the picture and look at it next to the motor you should see where they are.

There is also an anode between the stern mounting bracket.

You probably need the 2 screws for that anode also.

The other anode above the trim tab is
#51 anode

You probably need the bolt for that anode too.

You need to remove the trim tab to access the anode screw if I remember correctly.

O.K., I found the corresponding square hole where the #51 anode goes. I'll look for the other one as well. It definately could use them; there's some nasty corrosion forming on one of the tilt cylinders. Ordered from boatzincs.com. Why on earth would anyone remove them and not replace them?
