Has anybody repowered the 17' Outrage I hull (1991-1995) with any of the new, lighter four-strokes?
I currently have a 2000 Johnson 90hp, and want something that does not smoke and is more reliable, as the Johnson is sometimes hard to start.
The Johnson 90 weighs 317lbs, and the oil reservoir under the starboard seat probably weighs another 25 lbs, for a total of 342 lbs.
The new Mercury 115 four-stroke weighs 359 lbs.
Has anybody repowered this hull with this motor?

There have been a dozen or so re-powers of this model.
The Mercury 115 hp motor was recently introduced but reviews of the redesigned family has been good so far.
The hull can handle the weight of the Mercury 115 FourStroke. It is recommended the motor be rigged at least 2 holes up and have a stainless steel prop.

Thank you for the information, Phil. The new Mercs seem to be about 30 lbs lighter than their predecessor, despite having a larger displacement. Seems like a win/win.
