I have purchased a 2005 Montauk 170 with 2stroke 90 HP Mercury. Recently replaced
the 2 six gallon gas tanks with a 20 gallon tank. At cruising speed( 3/4 throttle or approx.
3800/4000 rpm)how many gallon does it burn per hour or miles per gallon?
I tried searching for a thread with little results on my part.
Thanks,
Chris

I'd estimate 6.0 - 6.5 gph. Probably 9 - 10 gph @ WOT.

You may be able to find Whaler's archived test data on the rig, or call Whaler for the information. But I would estimate about 5 MPG at 30 MPH cruise.
Consider purchasing one of Mercury's brand new design 4 blade Spitfire X7 SS props. They are supposed to be best performing prop on the market for mid-range engines like yours, even better than the previoiusly best performing Laser II.

I had a 14 year old 90 2 stroke Yamaha. I was getting 4-5 mpg. Fill your new tank full and keep a good track of time and/or distance and you can get a fairly close mpg/gph.
You will be amazed at the mpg of a new 4 stroke! Do not wait too long!
