My rehab is about complete. I decided NOT to go with removing the captains chairs and installing a RPS due to the cost. My 2 chairs will spin freely while empty but bind under weight. What is the bushing/bearing config. of these chairs? It can't be as simple as a good greasing, it feels like the swivel mechanism is worn out...

There are no pedestal bushing on the Wise chairs.
They are aluminum to aluminum contact.

I would take the chairs off the pedestals and file down any burrs on the top of the pedestal post so it is smooth and do the same around the outside of the pedestal post where the chair slider fits over the top.

A lot of people put grease on them but I don't like that for many reasons.
1. Grease gets hard and then won't allow the seat to turn easily.
2. Grease gets on clothing on other items, etc...

I would clean them off completely and then get all the burrs off.
Try it and see if that works for you.

Throw them overboard in your driveway. Then pour gas on em and lite em on fire. Then get in yout pickup and run em over a few times. Then make sure you dispose of them properly. Trust me it will make you feel good.

i just recently took my leaning post off (ducks as Tom B throws a wrench) :D and tried my captain chairs. I'm repairing my leaning post (snapped one of the through bolts) and re-installing it asap, as the chairs are useless (although they do look kina cool). However, when i removed the leaning post there was a pretty good buildup of corrosion, and i cleaned that up before installing my chairs which swivel freely. My guess is you have the same, and just need to go with the remove and clean advice.

It seems like chairs would be more comfortable than a leaning post. :@
But from all of negative comments, I guess I'll stick with the leaning post.

It would be kinda fun to burn a set of chairs and run them over though.
