I recently read the extended thread concerning repower and enhancing performance. Since I got my 1974 Outrage 21 with twin 1988 Yamaha 90s, I have not made any changes intended to enhance performance. Perhaps there is someone here who has similar gear that might shed some light on how they tweaked their setup to get maximum performance. Thanks in advance.

How about you explain how the motors are currently set, such as:
Engine Mounting height
Prop - Make/model and size
What kind of performance are you getting now, WOT rpm and speed now?

Phil: Good point. Not positive but I believe the motors are three holes up and the prop ,I believe is a 13 pitch alum. What I as sure of is that with two aboard and light load/fuel, WOT was 5500 RPMs at 40 MPH. I am not displeased with any of this--only trying to have best set up for a general use boat. Thanks again.

Wait, twin 90's and only 40 mph? That sounds pretty slow for 180 hp.
I think a good stainless steel props will be a major improvement.
Any of these will be an improvement:
13" x 17" Yamaha Painted Stainless Steel
13-1/4" x 16" Yamaha Performance Series Three Blade
13-1/4" x 15" Turbo 1 4.25

I did suspect that SS Props might be a substantial improvement. The boat is used for general purposes--cruising, skiing, tubing and fishing. The current hole shot is quite good I think. Of the several you suggest, which might you suspect the best? The boat has lived from 1977 to 2013 in the North Channel of Lake Huron. Thus, the aluminum props. Probably time for a change.
