The throttle lever for my 1982 outrage 18 (Mariner 125) wont stay in place. If I let go of it it drops back to lower speed. Has anyone had any experience with this? It is the single lever Mercruiser control with a button to put it in throttle only mode and the remote tilt button on the side of the lever.

Tom -
There is a friction adjustment screw inside the cover of the housing.
Are you sure it is a Mercruser throttle and not a Mercury/Quicksilver model something like this:

I think that's it. I took the cover off but can't locate the screw. Any hints where it is?
Thanks
Tom

Phil,
I'm Still looking for some advice on the problem of the throttle sliding back to idle when i let go. It does appear to be the Merc Quicksilver like the photo you show. Can you tell me where to look for the adj. screw when I take the cover off? Spring is coming and I really want to fix this. My mechanic couldn't find an adjustment and is suggesting a clamp on the cable?

There are several models of shifters.
In all my research, the consensus is the friction adjustment is under the throttle arm. The install guide says to adjust friction
before installation.
I would unbolt/unscrew the shifter from the console (don't disconnect cables) and take a look at the bottom/underside.
