Lost my danforth 8lb anchor need to replace. This anchor never fit properly in that small space anyway so I'm happy to see her go.
Thinking about replacing with a grapple style 8lber. there easy to store my only concern is holding power. I do most of my boating in the northeast Long Island Sound which is fairly rocky for the most part. Does anyone use this type of anchor .......pros cons Thanks

I'd be interested to see what everyone fits in that locker as well. An anchor should be chosen for the type of bottom and size of boat. But I'd like to see how creative everyone is with that locker. I have a folding grapnel in there now. I like a bruce anchor with chain for sand. Wondering if a small bruce would fit in there.

Bill, the grapple type works well for rocky areas like the LIS, but it will not hold in sand. I'd save the Danforth and throw it in a goody bag or a crate for when it might come in handy. You can leave it home if you're not exploring -- when you know you will be at rocky anchorages that you're familiar with.

My Nauset had the 8# Danforth for years....
I replaced it with a 6"# grapple as it fit better in the front well.
After never getting a good grip with the grapple...I just restored the Danforth...it fits.....and it works.
