I would like to grease the swivel pin on this new-to-me 2006 Mercury 90 HP, and wonder which type and brand of marine grease I should get.

The 'factory" answer must be in the shop manual, but my copy is in the postal system, and has yet to arrive.

It would tempting to use some generic marine type from, say, NAPA, but I understand there may be some compatibility issues with existing grease on the device. Am I overthinking it?

I use the BRP Evinrude Triple-Guard marine grade grease.

Just Google "grease compatibility" and you get more than all the information you could want. Just to get you started here is an article by Mobil: http://www.mobilindustrial.com/ind/en...bility.pdf, top of the Google search.

Most basic marine grease is adequate since you should be adding/checking grease fittings 2x a year.

For trailer bearings, use specialized grease for trailers.

I personally had 2 mini (3 oz) grease guns with flex hose attachments, one for general marine grease and trailer bearings grease.

Whichever grease you choose for whatever need.....some greases are incompatible with one and other. Once you decide on a blend, stick with it. If you are not sure what is already there, clean it up and keep n the lubrication consistent.
