I posted eariler about buying a Rage 15, the deal fell through and I've found an Outrage 18, 1988 with a 1999 Merc 135 Optimax and trailer in good condition. The trailer needs the bunks re-done and a new roller or two. The boat has all canvas but the teak work needs to be re-done, there is varnish all over the place. Overall a boat that could look great with a week of elbow grease.
What is it worth? There are holes on the transom from a kicker but otherwise all original. I can get this boat for 11,400USD. Will I get my money out if I don't want to keep it long?
Thanks,
Craig

Honestly Craig, probably not. I would look for something with a lower price tag if you are looking to make a quick flip and make a profit.

I have to disagree with Jeff... but I am on the West Coast where the prices are generally a little higher.....
I would buy all the Outrage 18's I could find at that price especially with newer power mounted on the transom.
That boat has a 1999 engine on it.....
A little elbow grease and some repairs and you will have one of the finest all around Whalers ever made.

Thanks,
I'm not really in it for the flip, just want to know that I won't take a bath if I don't use it much and want to sell. Seems like a good boat that needs a little clean up. The ebay prices of these boats and the classified prices don't really line up, pricing is difficult to set as the market is very specific.

Craig you could buy it clean it up and use it for a year or two and sell it for what you bought it for or maybe more.
Here is a list to download and go through when looking at the boat.
Whaler Check Sheet
Also try and make an offer.

Thanks,
I think the 'try and make and offer' route has been exhausted, we've gone from 21k to 12k. Still working on the deal, I'll post pictures if this pans out.

Recovering bunks with new boat carpet $30 -- use rust proof staples. Buying new bunks and hardware around $100. A few new Stolz keel rollers $50. Refinishing teak is a great winter project, just remove all the pieces. Time 1 day and supplies $50. Seal the holes in transom with silicone and some stainless hardware. This way you can keep out water, make it look nice, and still be able to add a kicker in the future. If the engine runs well, then I think you have a good price. If the boat was on Long Island I'd want it. Good luck. I don't think you can lose on this one. It's like money in the bank. You could use it a few years and get your money back. Plus, the boating season in Canada has to be pretty short, so the motor really has more like 3 years usage. Not bad.

I tend to agree with Jeff a little.
I just got my 1982 18 outrage this season I paid 9500.00.
This included all the covers (console and boat/motor)
New chairs and bow cushions, 1996 Evinrude Ocean Pro (Runs like new)
1996 Wesco Aluminum trailer with brakes and the wood is all-intact.
This being said the boat you are looking for sounds a little newer.
I can tell you this much though. You will not regret the handling and pure performance of that boat. I guarantee that!
Besides it will give you a great project for the winter. And it always beats vacuuming for the wife.
Good luck.

Well well well... I'm back.
After 'waiting out' for a while, I purchased this boat for 11,000CAD or $10,300USD. I have also found that the 135 Opti had <200 hours on it as found by a mechanic. This was the 1999 Optimax and 1988 Outrage 18. I don't have a dock, a tow vechicle or a happy wife but I have a good looking whaler that needs a little TLC to be great. Pictures to follow...

Sounds like a good deal to me. That boat is almost as good as money in the bank.
