I have a 2009 Dauntless (75 gallon tank) and recently had to replace the fuel float. I probably only burn about 50 gallons a year and am concerned about the "old fuel" in the tank. Does anyone know how often you should clean the gas tank to remove old fuel that could damage your engine?

Is the fuel straight regular or ethanol blended?

Did you add any fuel conditioner to it when the tank was filled?

A mixture of both. It depends on where I fill up. I have added fuel stabilizer to it each time I fill up. Thanks for the help.

If you have a filter with a water separator you shouldn't have to worry too much because the filter will tell you if you have water in the fuel. As far as using fuel with ethanol, I wouldn't do it to save a couple of dollars. Buy your fuel at a marina so you don't have to worry about ethanol problems. If you ever have an ethanol related fuel problem it will probably cost more than the few bucks you save, not to mention the aggravation.

I have gone as long as 2 years without any issues. Note that the tank was full in the winter and all fuel was ethanol blended and had an additive.

At the end of the 2 years, I pumped it all out and it was used in small engines.

I've never emptied mine out - going on 30 years. My fuel/water separator has always done the trick along with a little fuel stabilizer. Some here may find that neglectful :)
