I've got the same drone, a DJI phantom. I've been wanting to get some footage underway while on the boat, however, its very difficult to drive a boat and fly the drone at the same time. The drone will do 30mph.

If there is any wind, it gets a little tricky trying to land with any antennas/rods on the boat, especially on a moving boat. Water landing is not an option...

Drones are really fun to fly - that was some cool footage.

I fired up the DJI Phantom 2 plus and got some cool high speed footage. sot on 6/13/15. The drone tops out at about 30mph. This is my first attempt at flying from a moving platform - soplease excuse the any jerking of the camera. All footage is at about 100 feet altitude. My 11 year old is at the helm.

Its a little tough retrieving the drone on a boat and there is no place to land nearby - but it all worked out.

Operating a drone and piloting a motor boat underway by a single person at the same time is a very bad practice and very dangerous.

It does not matter if there was no other boats in the area and the water was calm.

Please bring someone to drive the boat and someone else to operate the drone.

Agreed, Phil T. I don't think is safe either, thats why someone else is driving. Waaaay to complicated to do by yourself. I think you mis understood my post - if you look, there are 2 people on the boat.

Props to both of you. Takes some big "cojones" to fly a drone in open water and retrieve it, especially since there is nothing but water at the point of takeoff if you lose connectivity with he drone and it returns home.

I saw the title on the posts page and I thought I was going to see a Whaler SHOT by a drone!! I have always wondered if a missile fired fro a drone could sink a Whaler :)
