Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: honda 8hp on 13'

My first Whaler is a long neglected 1963 13' and need motor. I can get a deal on Honda 8hp short shaft with starter and remote. Mostly smaller lakes here. Will that small of motor get my kids out fishing?? I can hot rod it to a 9.9 hp easy. thanks

An 8HP motor will get you slowly to your fishing hole.....

alpelzer, either an 8 or 9.9hp would work but they will be mighty slow. By way of comparison, I have a 1971 13'er that came with an old 40hp Evinrude. It gets right up and scoots and will run in the mid- to high-30's with two aboard and 10 gallons of gas.
