I purchased a 1992 60 hp Merc a year & a half ago. It ran well on the test stand. I stored it on a stand in my basement until now. I installed it on my 15' Sport & it started well. It will go in forward & reverse, but when it is in neutral the prop contiues to turn. You can stop the prop with a small piece of wood easily, but the fact remains the prop is turning in neutral. I disconnected the controls & tried engaging neutral by hand & no change. Can anybody give me some help with this so I can get my 15' Sport back in the water after 3 years of restoring!

This is normal for many engines if the engine is being run on muffs...

The prop will not spin in neutral when the engine is in the water...
