I am re-powering a 1963 classic 13 from a clamp on 1970 40hp johnson to 1995 evinrude short shaft 2 stroke 40hp. Question . How to mount since the transom is curved. .the new motor mounting does not get flush( i added two aluminum plates about 3/16th thick to fix this issue and still not right. . How to mount, and what to use for sealing new drilled holes? Also on the inside of the well the holes i drilled ,as seen go into a part of the transom that is 2 " wider and seems to been void of wood the last 2", will the bolts still work in this area. thanks in advance for you help!

Don't worry about it. I had my Yamaha 50 mounted that way for 24 years on a 1969 with the same transom configuration and there was never any problem. Just keep the lower pair of bolts relatively loose so as not to crush the hull. Over time you will see some depression of the hull, but you have the setup that will minimize this.

Thanks so much for the response. do you happen to have any pictures of the inside area where your bolts came through the transom into the well area? And how did you seal the bolt holes to avoid water intrusion to the transom wood.

I made wedges from fiberglass to square up the transom.

I used 5200 on the plates and life seal or life caulk (can't remember which) on the lower bolts 2 full years later and all is great.
I used a large lag bolt on the lowest bracket mounting hole.

I missed the part you where you said this was a short shaft but the wedge idea could still be applied.
