Is it only Me or there seems to always be something to do and improve on the "Whaler"?
Beside the cosmetic aspects such as wet sanding,polishing, buffing and cleaning
The updates on chromes, wood sanding and re varnishing
The constant searches for original parts
The fabrication and improvements of equipments such as jack plate anchor and commodities.
Nicks, gouges, stains and scrapes repairs..
Where does one draw the line?
When do you give up?
Still at work in weighing the pros and cons of equipping the Classic with a bow rail to show factory lines.
Aft gunwale railings are presently studied for yet another possible update.
The name "My Girl" was debated lately for an overhaul.
In going through the tract record on this forever ongoing Whaler refit and
am debating to rename this Classic with the name "Purgatory"
A poll is offered for your distraction and entertainment
Which name would you prefer being permanently used for this refit if yours?
Have you ever named or renamed your Whaler?
Any if any consequences from the new name?

I like the name "My Girl", you've put your heart and soul into this restoration.

Haven't named mine yet. Kids came up with 2 options.
Cincinnati Kid or Boston Strong

My thanks for your understanding of what the "Spirit" of this refit is all about Dough..
The deed is done and outboard bolting will be scheduled to be tackled soon...
Would have love to see this Classic hull being displayed indoors as a commitment to the most Excellent work done by the old fabricating plant crews; working to have made the Whaler name a mark of excellence; from the uncertain times that were the early seventies.
In thanking you anew for the good words Dough and in the reminder as to not forget to express your opinions in the form of comments and into opining through the neat option of voting for your preferences and.... what have you?
The deed will reside in not so much as being seen to reside about a money issue but rather about the feeling of a "Personal" investment and to the satisfaction residing in the accomplished deed.

Mine is named "Clumsy Cleat" which is a true whaling term for a Boston Whaler. It wasn't named that way because of me. I'm not clumsy although the admiral sometimes thinks different.

Well I've heard of names like "Let er Rip", "Goldie Lux" and who can forget the "Master Baiter"?
Seen the "Hang em High","Bush Pilot" and "Ham A Gigolo"
The "High Peeve Freely"," Spinster Harbinger" and the "Eager Beaver"
All had a story and some great reasons to be named as such.
I got to wonder as to what we get to call our boats when talking about it to our friends.
Could it be just da boat or the Whaler?

A boat named "My Wife's Kitchen" brought a smile to my face. For a vote I say "My Girl". "Purgatory" does not seem so uplifting.

One of the reasons I purchased my boat is that it was not named (I am not big on name changing). Christened her the "JoeAnne Too" for my folks no longer with me (Joseph and Annette).

My pre-teen kids (at that time) named one of my old boats (1961 27' Chris-Craft Sea Skiff) "Dad Gone Crazy, Mom Gone Mad, Kids Plain Happy" when it was time to name her. This due to me having worked on it for over 2,000 hrs (2,400hrs total with mom and the kids) whenever I had an hour free, to get her in the water. As there wasn't enough room on the transom for a name like that we settled on "Dad Gawn Crazy" This name stuck with several other woodies I put a lot of work into after that.
With some of you spending a lot of time restoring your old Whalers not a bad name.

Howsabout.. some Shakespeare to denote your pains in bringing this beautiful Outrage back.

So my offering is:
"Slings and Arrows" or "Outrageous Fortune"
(there is an arrow in the BW logo... the other is obvious)

After all the hours of work, planning, thought and devotion, I couldn't possibly understand renaming "My Girl". All our boats have personalities derived from what we do with them, the places we explore with them, the way they were originally built and to some degree from our own characteristics. I did rename one of my boats. A 29' Blackfin that came with the name of the previous owners wife. I now call the boat Resolute after the HMS Resolute (an interesting history worth the read). For the superstitious, renaming a boat is very involved but possible. My 17' Outrage is named Baloo after the playful dancing bear in The Jungle Book since it is a "play boat" for me and the kids. My 22' Outrage is not yet finished her extensive refit and is yet to be named...
