I did have a 24 gallon Moeller fuel tank under the rear seat of my Montauk 170. It started leaking though, I replaced the gasket on top, and it still leaked. That's OK, I was looking for an excuse to get one of the white Moeller tanks specifically made for the newer Montauks.

So, here's my question, the old red Moeller had a vented cap. It appears that the new white Moeller does not. Is this an issue?

Thanks

The gas caps have changed due to new EPA rules. The white Moeller has a vented cap. It just looks different.

From Moeller:

Features of Moeller Boston Whaler Topside Fuel Tank:

Made of high-density polyethylene with UV-stabilized resin
E10 Ethanol compliant
Molded fill neck with side angle orientation
Exclusive PL3 pickup design with 360° swivel
Includes 12" Kelch fuel cap with site gauge and vent
CE Certified and both ABYC & NMMA compliant

I had, and have read about, problems with the new vented caps on the red portable tanks. IMO the rule and new design requirement is crap. They leak a lot.

I am NOT sure if the cap and sight gauge unit is prone to the same leakage issue.
