I have a 6 hp Suzuki that starts great but won't idle down without being choked.
Plugs are good
Bulb stays hard
Any ideas?

Mike,
Sounds like a carb... I had a old 15 HP suzuki that idled lousy. I had to do a carb rebuild. After that, it is was fine. Do you have drain at he bottom of the bowl? Start by draining, may be water or other junk in there. Then try to run. Also as preventive thing I alway run seafoam through my engines few times a season to keep the jets clean.
Let me know

Mike,
By not idling down, do you mean it runs fine but just too fast?
If it is just too fast, then I believe their is an idle stop screw or an idle speed adjustment on the tiller handle so you can adjust the speed of the idle.
Do you have a manual for that engine?

Thanks guys. It runs fine until slowing down to the shifting range. Once it gets down to the shifting range it just trails off and kills.

Mike,
I assume the plugs are good as well? If the carb suggestion does not help, and you are sure that all lines, tank, and connections are good, then I would do a compression check. Did it run properly before? You did not mention the age of the engine.
One other important thing, if this happens after it is heated up you may want change the thermostat, make sure it getting enough water. The temperature of the engine will impact how well it idles. If it is too hot it will not idle.
Good luck
