I am helping a friend to restore a 1985 Montauk. The boat was previously painted and, therefore, will be painted again after appropriate prep work.
For those that have painted their boats, what brand of paint have you used and what is the best color match for the original BW gelcoat color?

We will be applying the paint via the roll and tip method.

Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
I like to use Awlgrip. in fact I`m in the middle of an Awlgrip job now, and have done about 8 boats so far over the years. I always spray, because it is less time consuming, but Awlgrip makes a brushing reducer for rolling and tipping with a badger hair brush. There is a VCS vidio out called Brushing Awlgrip, by Merrit Vidio Productions,of Pompono Beach Fl. phone# is 305-946-5422. Call them and check it out. I own one and was thinking of trying the brushing method, but I`ve always had good luck spraying.
Awlgrip is a two part poyurathane paint, used over a 2 part epoxy undercoater. It is expensive, I just spent $360 for enough Awlgrip for a 17` bass boat. The best place to buy it is Finishmasters. They are a chain and are all over the country. Just type in finishmasters on your computer.
BTW, don`t bother using one part poly marine paint. The same amount of work is required, and it will last only a year, whereas Awlgrip will last 6-10 years. Good luck
