I have been looking at the 150 Sport and wanted to get some feedback if I could. I am looking for a boat that can be easly trailerd and for one person to launch by himself. It would mainly be used in the bay for crusing and some fishing. I want it comfortable for my wife but also low maint. and fun for me. Is there any issues with standing up on this boat? Should I be looking at something else? The dealer said his price is 17,500.00 but I see on the B.W. site that the 150 Sport has a Nationally Advertised Selling Price of 16,779.00. I would rather put the other 700.00 into options, but maybe I am missing something.

You can stand up in any boat. The question is, how safe will that be for that particular individual due to height, etc...

The Montauk 17' or Montauk 170 is one of the smallest Whalers designed for standing while operating the boat due largely in part to the center console design. There are other models like the Dauntless 16 that is also a candidate but I wouldn't suggest standing safely in anything smaller while the boat is underway. Of course, I will leave that decision up to the individual.

Standing while underway can be much more comfortable on the body as the knees help absorb the shock of rougher water.

I would suggest looking for a used Montauk 17', Montauk 170, or something similar.

If you are looking at something new, the Montauk 150 might be worth looking at or getting a sea trial from your dealer. See how you like it before you buy.

Thanks for the info. When I say standing, what I mean is when anchored doing some fishing, moving around a little. I used to have a 17' Montauk and I loved it, however it was getting to be a hassle to launch by myself and it was not as (wife friendly) as I am looking for now. I still welcome your thoughts on the 150 Sport along with price issues in origional post.

I have the classic 15' "Sport", so I'm not familiar with the newer hull's performance of the 150 model, I can tell you that stand up fishing is pretty good on the 15' (Classic) while anchored, especially on the bow with the raised platform, it makes casting easy, and unrestricted (probably it's best asset), the guy in the back has it a bit rougher, but can still fish. Standing up in a 15' at speed can be done but, it's usually with one knee on the seat for stability (you, not the boat). It's much safer to sit down while at speed in a 15, you can get to the bow at speed but, you'll be clawing your way up there along the rails. Long Range cruising comfort is NOT what the 15 is all about, It seems to me, that the boat was designed to blast across the Bay quickly to a good fishing spot, fish it for a while, then blast to another good fishing spot, this can be done all day safely, and without using much fuel at all. It's a very stable fishing platform. hope this helps...

I have been using my 2007 150 Sport since April around the Chesapeake Bay area. You can definitely standup and fish from it with no problem. My son (7) and I go fishing every weekend in it. I am amazed at how the boat handles rough water. I originally purchased it to run around the rivers in the area figuring the bay was too much for it. I now go into the bay all the time. The only thing I would change (and hope to change) is the bench seat for me is a little small. I also do not have the comfort package with mine so there are no cushions. My family loves the boat and will all sit in it for slow cruises as well. As far as price I think the 17,000 is retail but you get dealer discounts to put it at high 16,000. I also made them throw in a Garmin 498 GPS Fishfinder. As far as launching solo I do it twice a week (my son does not really help with launching).
