Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: So I Bought A "New" Whaler

Last fall I got tired of my nephew moaning every time he walked by my boat so I sold it to him, (the boat on my Personal Page). Since then I have been looking for something to replace it, and while I didn't limit my choices to a Whaler I always came back to a classic 17/18/19 foot Whaler. What can I say, I love these old boats & a boat that is more perfect for me doesn't exist.

Having been out of the market for a while I was surprised at the crap being peddled as Whalers, or the price of good ones. I was beginning to prepare myself for a long search when Nephew stopped by the other day. As I usually do I asked him what he is doing with the boat, and as usual he explained there were other things taking up his time. So I asked, "Why don't you sell it back to me?"

Long story short my new boat is my old boat. It's not all good news. This boat is absolutely original with a very nice hull, but it is time for a refit. I hoped to get out of doing the work but after seeing what is out there I see a project page in my future. Next winter I am probably going to strip it down and fix it up.

Oh I'm sure you'll hear from me before refit time. I put a picture of the bow light on my Personal Page because it is something that sorta bothered me. While it looks consistent with the age & condition of everything else it doesn't look like any Whaler light I've seen.

I'll try to source the miscellaneous parts I'll need over the next few months but I probably won't know the full extent until I strip the boat down.

I have the same bow light on my 1977 Montauk. Scott Blake also has one on his 1977 Montauk.

You guys also have a winged console on 1997's too, which is odd, isn't it?

So do you think that light is Whaler OEM? This was a transition period for what I consider the stock lights, maybe they used them for a short time? I guess I'll find out when I take it off and see if there was ever another type of light there.
