I posed this question once before but as things go, I was unable to proceed. I have a 1976 Whaler Sport 15. My old engine (Johnson 75 Stinger - manual tilt) weighs about 200#. I have been looking at used engines for a repower and like the Evinrude E-Tec models. I need a tilt/trim this time as I am a senior. I am sure the models up to 60 HP that weigh 250# would be OK for this size boat. That size seems harder to find than some I see that are heavier. I see several out there that are available in the 75-90 HP range that weigh 320#. I would like to know if anybody has a 15 Sport with a 320# engine set-up and have no issues with that weight motor.

I'm 39 years old with the same hull and I ain't going without tilt and trim. Back in 1983, my dad got the 75hp Evinrude because the 70 hp which the 15' is rated for didn't have tilt and trim.
We put in at a public boat ramp in Charleston harbor last week. There are a lot of dry stack facilities as well as private docks that line the creek. Out of the dozens upon dozens of boats that i could see, I don't think I counted more than five outboards that weren't Yamahas. That says slot about the product.

From what i have read a 320# motor on classic 15' will have some downsides due the weight. Such as taking water over the transom if slowly down fast. Not being able to stand in one of the rear corners without taking over the side.

None of you need trim/tilt because of your age...you need trim/tilt because the classic 15' hull demands it. Your boat will run much better if you can adjust the engine trim while underway.
