Is it me or is this a very expensive boat for its size? I'm close to purchasing but having serious reservations about cost and value in comparison to other boat options. The price I've been offered is $35K all in with fishing package, sun lounge, console/seat cover, taxes, trailer including Costco discounts. Am I missing something here? Just don't want to get hosed.

Anyone have this boat? Options to consider pros and cons are appreciated.

I was able to save a huge amount when buying my 190 Montauk by using the Whaler web site. I simply went to many dealers web sites to find the exact model and accessories I wanted. I then emailed or called the various dealers until I found a price I could tolerate.

I kept it simple, no trade-in or financing. Drive in, hook up and drive out. I drove from Alabama to St Louis which was a hard days drive. Spent the next day completing the arrangement and drove home the following day. It was worth it to me.

Two things:

I think if you look around you can find one a few years old in very good condition that would have a less painful price. I bought a 2006 170 Montauk that had 146 hours on the clock last year for half what a new one is. I've seen at least 3 and maybe 4 of the newer Montauk 170's for sale in the past month.

As butchdavis said, call around. Here in the Charleston area the previous Whaler dealer was really high on their prices. People around here would go to Columbia or Beaufort to buy their Whalers and save a few thousand dollars.

I chatted with an owner of a new Montauk 190 purchased from Costco and he was at $40,000. It blew my mind that Costco was selling boats. His research in the S.F. Bay Area of California had him $5000 below any of the local dealers.

If you buy an expensive item at Costco, get the executive membership. You get a percentage back at the end of the year. Don't remember how much, I think 2%, but it always pays the membership fees. No connection, just a happy customer.
