Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Montauk console mounted seat back

Just purchased a 2000 Montauk 17 with fishing pkg. It has a seat back mounted on one side of the console above the ice chest. We have the other seat back and two of the three rod holders, but need the horizontal mounting brackets that accommodate the shape of the rod holders and have snap bases at each end to attach the padded cushion.

Our closest dealer (Portland, OR) suggested that our Whaler was too old to find these brackets and that we should have a local plastics manufacturer replicate the ones we have. Before going this route I'd surely appreciate any suggestions from those using this site who have been Whaler owners longer than me!

Have you looked in our OEM Parts Photo section?
http://www.whalercentral.com/viewpage...page_id=69

They're called "Console Rod Holders"...
Not sure if you have the teak wood pieces or starboard instead.
You might also try a different dealer. Some dealers do NOT want to help anyone with small parts.
Try Twin Cities Marine in the upper right sidebar of our site under "Sponsors"...

We also have the drawings available in the downloads section on our site.

You will have to buy the stud snaps as they came with the cushion(s). You can get SS ones at any local marine store.

Joe -
Yes, I did download your drawings for the teak brackets. Ours appear to be white plastic - is that what you call starboard?
We can certainly reproduce ourselves if we can find the plastic stock. I would prefer that to teak unless we replace the other two to match. Thanks for posting the drawings. This will make the project much easier. I will check with the Whaler dealer who sponsors the site. Always happy to support those businesses that make this type of site available.

One more Q. Have you seen any detailed plans for mounting the stock swim platform? It appears that we got all the parts when purchasing the boat, but neither of the two previous owners mounted it. It shows up on one of the schematics for a newer Montauk (but without measurements for accurate placement of the screws into the stern's inner reinforcement). The "official" site returns a bunch of code when looking for that model/year - and my guess is that it isn't any more detailed than what I've found so far.

Arti,

I would definitely call Sue Lodel at Twin Cities Marine. She is top notch, first class, Master Boston Whaler dealer....

She may have info on the Swim Platform. If you do find any installation instructions, please let me know so I can post them on this site. We are always looking for drawings, installation instructions, etc... etc... etc...

Yes, Starboard is the white plastic stuff.. Also called Whalerboard and probably a few other names. I would make the set just like the originals you have on your boat now. If you decide to make them or have them made, again, please submit a drawing for us as other people might be able to use them somewhere down the road...
