Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Where in South Florida?

I'm going to have a day or so either side of a 7 day cruise with the family, based out of Ft Lauderdale.

Should we go and check out the Keys? Where would a local suggest a 40-something, Eh-sayin classic Whaler enthusiast go to have a look around?

Thank you

Personally I'd go to the Keys....

The southern keys...Big Pine, Bahia Honda, Marathon....all are great areas to boat around. Oh, Little Palm Island, near Big Pine Key.....that place is beautiful!!!!

This is so easy to get to.

Are there small boat rentals available in this area?

If you have never seen them, the Keys may be worth a day trip, but it's a considerable drive from Lauderdale. You may not get much further than Islamorada or Marathon, since you will want to make stops and side roads to have a look around.

For any boater without a boat, the absolutely best thing you can do to spend a day on the water is get on the Water Taxi system. For an $18/person day pass, you can go everywhere, and see the entire Lauderdale waterfront on your own schedule, including stops at eateries, etc. You will see thousands of boats of all types, from Stephen Spielburg's $200,000,000 mega yacht (currently docked at Pier 66, - their 2nd level outdoor Pelican Bar is highly recommended for a lunch break) to 13' Whalers, plus amazing waterfront homes of the super rich. Be sure to take the ride up the New River. Ft Lauderdale is the world of Mercury and Yamaha twin, triple and quad powered center consoles.

You can rent a Montauk 170 at Lauderdale Marina, the local Whaler Dealer, but it is pricey. About $400/day.

If the weather is good, you will enjoy the trip.

Drive north and go on a factory tour in Edgewater.

You can rent a nice boat in the middle Keys for less than $200 a day. Just let me know, I can get you some phone numbers.
