Does your boat have a Tachometer?
Does your motor have trim and tilt?
It might be used for one or the other above.

No tach and yes on T/T. I was hoping it was a tachometer connection.

Interesting I have the same adapter on mine. I also have a tach and that harness comes out the front of my remote.

With a Mercury side mount control, there are only so many functions it could be:
1. Plug for tachometer/temp/trim gauge wiring (5 pin-ignition, neg, and the three sender wires)
2. Neutral interlock wiring ( 2 wires)
3. Power trim plug (3 pins)
4. Warning horn connector and/or leads
5. Kill switch connector and/or leads
That's it.

It comes out the front of the box along with the throttle cables.

I am almost positive it is the plug for a 5 pin tachometer wiring harnesss, which then has the leads to the gauges.

Well this is good news! Adding a tach was on my off season to-do list :). This makes it a much easier and in expensive project.
