I'd like to move my battery to the center console and add a second battery.
I searched this site, but didn't see much how to info about that.
Does anyone have suggestions as far as positioning and mounting the batteries? And running the wires to the engine? I don't know how to wire dual batteries either so if someone could post a link about doing that, it would be very helpful.

the guy i bought the boat from mounted the battery in the console - better yet, mounted it through the console floor so it rests on the deck. this keeps the battery from bouncing around on the console floor and stressing it - and i have more room in the console.
good luck

Definitely a good thing to do. I put two batteries in the console and added a recessed battery switch to my Montauk a few years ago.
(Picture of console with battery switch is about the 3rd or 4th picture down)

I didn't cut the console floor, but I did wedge a piece of teak under the console to support the area under the batteries. You could use pressure treated lumber as well.
Wiring the two batteries is a simple procedure which will be illustrated in the instructions that come with the switch. You'll need to buy a short cable to connect the two negative terminals together and 2 slightly longer cables (2-3 feet) to connect the positive terminal of each battery to the switch.

I have a Newport 17' , this is the Montauk hull with different configuration of accessories (rails being the biggest to me).
Mine came with the battery in the console and the console floor notched to accept it, just as your picture indicates. I assume this was common ? It makes it very stable.
