Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Opinion on F100 on Outrage 17 1992

I am seriously considering purchasing a BW Outrage 17 1992 with Yamaha F100 carburated four stroke engine. The Hull is in great shape because it was totally re-done 2 years ago. My only concern is the engine, the sale has been stalled because the owner has not been able to get the carburators to work smoothly. Two carb. Jobs have been done on the Engine and still no success, the compression on all four cilinders is perfect. I am looking for some wisdom into the engine question.
Any advice or comments are welcomed,
Thanks In advance for your time and Help

Nas,
There seems to be a problem with the numbers you put into your boat profile.
1992 Outrage 17', BWCC9187M79H
The last two numbers you show are for a 1979 year model, not a 1992.
If those are the numbers on the boat, I would see what in the world is going on.
Edit:
On further examination of the HIN number, the number you gave is not even for a 1992 Outrage 17' model.
The Outrage 17' models start with BWCCA for the years 1990 to January of 1995

Something is rotten with those numbers you gave us for that year model.
I would be very suspicious.

Often it takes two carb cleanings to get all the parts truly clean. They also may need to be adjusted.
I would politely suggest to the seller he get a professional to do the carb work.

Thank You Joe for taking the time to rewiew the HIN#. This numer is on a brand new plate the the ownwer placed on the boat after painting the boat few years back. I questioned the origin of this number he gave me another number from the engraved aluminum plate that was originaly on the boat whe he bought it (563E292). After reading all the info available on Whaler Central About the Outrage 17 I am prety sure this is the real deal. I don't understand why the new was used could this be a sign of trouble?
Thanks for creating this space for all whaler lovers.
Regards

Thank You Phil T, that's exactly what I did now we are waiting for the Yamaha Certified that took all four Carbs to his shop to have them cleaned and assembled once again according to factory settings. If they are unsuccessful this last time I am going to ask the owner to adjust the price so we can get new carbs in place. I don't want to go out with my family and have engine trouble on our first outing.
Thanks for your Advice i will stay in touch
regards

I don't know how Puerto Rico is, but here in the states, that HIN number would probably throw up a RED flag when we tried to register that boat here.
1992 Outrage 17', BWCC9187M79H (totally the wrong HIN)
1992 Outrage 17', BWCCA563E292 (would be in the correct series)
See this list here:
http://www.whalercentral.com/articles...icle_id=18
What is the stencil number on the boat?
A90??? (six characters)
Before registering, I would replace the HIN tag with the proper numbers.
You could contact Boston Whaler and give them the correct Stencil and HIN numbers so they could confirm them.
Then you could have a new HIN plate made with the correct numbers and keep the confirmation email from Boston Whaler for proof.

Those carbs are fussy, if its like my F80. I need to take mine back in for service. The idle is rough.

Thanks Joe for the advice,
I don't have the stencil # how can I get it, is it engraved on the hull? If so in which location?
I will call Boston Whaler to get the HiN checked prior to registration.
Thank You
Nas

I Spoke to the seller today he clarified that the correct HIN # is BWCC563E292. The other number was provided by the HIN plate manufacturer as an example of their work, it was never meant to be on the boat.

Great. Now you know.
When you buy the boat, let us know and we will add you to the list if you give us the Stencil number also at that time.

BWCCA563E292
A90??? (six characters for Stencil number)
Edit:
manufactured in May of 1992 as a 1992 year model.

There's still missing a letter after BWCC, maybe a "A"...
