Joe,
What kind of photo program could Facebook be using? I have posted some very large slide scans to FB and they miraculously resize them. Just curious.

I believe they either wrote their own or use a plugin on upload. They will resize your photo to fit the following, regular photo; 720px, 960px 2048px and cover photos are 851px by 315px. If your photo doesn't fit one of those sizes, they will shrink or stretch to fit which is why sometimes, actually most times photo's uploaded to facebook don't look so good. They also over sharpen everything which often causes nice soft lines to look hard and choppy. Cover photo's are limited to 100kb and for the most part they compress everything.
For uploading to WC, the best option is to use IrfanView to take and resize your photo's. It has a much better algorithm and they come out looking good, just smaller.
