I'm installing a 2006 Mercury 25 HP (180lbs) on a 1989 13' Sport; old bolt pattern on transom matches my engine. Mercury sells thumb screws for $77, can I use fine thread SS bolts and locknuts; what your opinion?
thank you,
Mitch

I had a 2011 Merc 25hp on the back of my 1982 13' standard. It was only held on with 1/2" fine thread SS bolts and nuts (or were they 12.7mm?).

Thanks Blacksmithdog.
That seems to be what a lot of others use as well. what about washers? Would think they might be needed on the inside to distribute the load.
If anyone has general info on engine install I'd appreciate it, this is the first engine install (HELP!)
thanks, mitch

Just repowered last year. The motor came with the mounting hardware, 4 ea. 1/2" fine thread bolts with one flat washer and brass nylon nuts for each. Top bolt is washer inside and nut to stern and lower bolt is nut and washer inside the transom.

There are also some extra large washers just for this application, to spread the load on the transom.
I'll send you a PM.
Actually, I sent you an e-mail, to your gmail account.
